What denomination is Crossway affiliated with?
Crossway is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. We are Baptists theologically, although our structure and programs may not resemble what you may have encountered in another Southern Baptist Church. Since Southern Baptists believe in the autonomy of the local church, we are free to determine how our church functions and what programs are offered.
Why don't we include the word "Baptist" in our name?
By not having the word “Baptist” in our name, it allows us to escape the preconceptions that some people have about Baptist churches. Some of these impressions may be based on misunderstandings about Baptist churches or even the bad past experiences of particular individuals. Not having “Baptist” in our name allows us to remove a possible barrier to someone’s attendance. This seems advisable because we want to be able to reach people who have never attended or given up on church involvement. We have the chance to show what kind of church we are without having to address these preconceptions. In addition, “Community Church” is actually a more accurate label for our church than “Baptist.” Our philosophy, programs and polity more closely resemble that of a Community Church since we don’t follow the structure and programming of a more traditional Baptist church.
